As technology advances, so too do applications for the use of ultrasound in the ED. Bedside imaging assists in patient care and workflow: in the past, patients were imaged in other departments; now, emergency physicians can use ultrasound to rapidly diagnose such conditions as congestive heart failure, pneumonia or ectopic pregnancy.
