“This book has been a key, if not the key, go-to reference on the treatment of fractures in children. This ninth edition is a wonderful update that partners with the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and continues to provide the most current concepts in the treatment of injuries in children available in book format.
The obvious purpose of this edition is to maintain the standard set forth by the eight previous editions, which have established Rockwood and Wilkins' as the most popular and fundamental reference used by orthopedic residents and surgeons. It remains one of the few must-have core books for every orthopedic surgeon.
The target audience includes the broad range of orthopedic surgeons, from residents to well-established attendings. Virtually every medical library that serves orthopedic surgeons will want a copy for students in training and healthcare professionals who want a quick reference. The authors have brought together key concept leaders to write each chapter to bring readers as up to date as possible.
This remains the leading book in the world on the management of fractures in children. It is a classic, comprehensive book that provides the depth of content, images, and references expected of the same. The images virtually always complement and expand the presentation of the information and transfer of knowledge to readers.
If there is a top five list of books that orthopedic surgeons should have in their library or have access to, this one and Rockwood and Green's Fractures in Adults, 9th edition, Tornetta et al. absolutely belong on it. They are the core, go-to references for all residents in training and orthopedic attendings in practice. The real question is not whether you need to have these two in your library, it is whether you need the latest edition. For me, this book is a wonderful update to the eighth edition and provides a much more current fund of knowledge. If you have an edition that's older than the eighth, it is absolutely time to update.”
