Description: This is an atlas of cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology. Purpose: The lead author has written several other books on this subject, but for this one his goal was to provide a primarily visual overview of cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology. Audience: This is an advanced level book, best suited for those training in interventional cardiology. Practicing interventional cardiologists also would find it suitable as a reference atlas. Features: The organization of the book is excellent. It starts with a chapter dedicated to multimodality imaging and how it is integrated into the catheterization lab. The remaining chapters are split into two general subjects, with the first half dedicated to basic subjects in the catheterization lab, such as vascular access, complications, and various types of angiography. The second half focuses on key areas of interventional cardiology, ranging from percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty to advanced epicardial access. Realizing that different subjects may be presented more effectively through different methods, the authors use two different chapter designs. Some chapters are case-based with images while others are just images with relevant text. Assessment: This would be a great addition to any interventional cardiology library. As an atlas, it would be a great resource for physicians in training as well as established interventional cardiologists. The book is great on its own, but as an adjunct to the author's Grossman and Baim's Cardiac Catheterization, Angiography, and Intervention, 8th edition (Wolters Kluwer, 2014), it is excellent. This is a highly recommended title.
